unreleased egyptian jazz: 2x45s set in a unique hand-printed fold-open pyramid! four sides of previously-unreleased ethnic mythic mystic jazz from the legendary egyptian drummer! before the re-release of his album with the cairo jazz band recently, the name salah ragab was best known to jazz fans and record collectors by way of another lp that was recorded with sun ra in the early 70s. his album >prism music unit< with the cairo jazz band was released in egypt with another by the cairo free jazz ensemble, but perhaps only salah himself knew of the other songs he had recorded at the time, but didnt make it onto these lps. the tapes lurking for decades in an old trunk, its taken until now for them to see the light of day, and we present them here as four amazing pieces of egyptian jazz on 2 seven inch singles. entombed within a hand-printed, hand-made pyramid shaped box, this is the first time in 40 years that these recordings will have come to light. ladies and gentlemen, behold the splendor that is salah ragab and the cairo jazz band!

the citizens bands second instalment for ramonas favourite label hollows their long lasting love affair. christian beisswengers (cb funk, one half of arto mwambe) is nothing less than dealing with the demise of an empire. >broken rome< is a codeine trip through early nu groove rave tracks as well as an ode to junior vasquez at the helm of the sound factory seen and heard through frosted glass. >densed< on the other hand tips its toes into the current deep house stream with an arto-mwambe-like hook and a thumping bass line. the spaces in-between those rudiments are taken up by the idm finger exercise and jewel that is >into<: ottoman dancing!

disco mali! sofrito present a unique slice of afro-disco from the celebrated griot, niama makalou, recorded in the late 70s.
descended from a family of griots (traditional malian praise singers), niama makalou moved to france in the mid 70s where she cut this, her one and only vinyl release. at the time paris (like much the rest of the world) was swept up in disco fever, so along with a group of malian musicians the date was set to cut a piece of disco, griot style. the resulting mixture of off kilter hand claps, raw string arrangements, balafon flourishes and bambara vocals combine with a heavy disco groove to produce a one-off piece of cross-cultural dancefloor mayhem.
on the flip daphni (aka caribou) crafts an extended version that distills it into a stripped down and dubbed out groove.

as dmob said in the early 1988 we call acid - the musical phenomenon that makes you want to dance, that puts you in a trance, that move you to the beat. in 2012 a turin mysterious artist know as a.m.b. ( acid music band ) decided to follow the way to acid music, inspired by the acid guru as virgo or tyree cooper and the first techno workers as underground resistance or juan atkins he produced two tracks only with analog instruments and acid attitude. acid music band sounds like an orchestra, the man is the music director and the machines are the players. we are young so we asked help from an old expert… directly from the chi-city, ricardo miranda contributed to create an overall ep with his fantastic boogie remix. old and young records.. we love acid too.
